  Drivers With Disabilities

With effect from 1st November 2009, drivewell  will be able to offer driving lessons in Milton Keynes for people with disabilities.

Nick Kettle has been a driving instructor for 6 years, and in 2006 he successfully completed a specialist course at the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation Mobility Centre in Carshalton, Surrey.

"This taught me a great deal, not only about teaching pupils with diverse disabilities, but also the process of applying for a driving licence if you have special needs, and the grants and concessions that are available."

Nick drives an automatic car which has been especially adapted to cater for most special needs, and has experience of teaching pupils with:

  • Spina Bifida

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Hemiplegia and Hemiparesis resulting from a stroke

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME)

  • Muscular Dystrophy

  • Polio

  • Leg and Spinal injuries

  • Spondylosis

  • Limb amputations

  • Arthritis

He also has experience of successfully teaching pupils who have previously struggled with driving lessons as a result of:

  • Learning Difficulties

  • Dyslexia

  • Language problems

  • Deafness or hearing difficulties

"Teaching people with special needs can bring with it many challenges, for the pupils as well as for me.

Working with the pupils to overcome these problems, and then seeing them go on to pass their driving test is a very rewarding part of my job."
