The Driving Test - At The Test Centre

By the day of your Practical Driving Test, your drivewell  instructor will have ensured that you are as prepared as it is possible to be.

The many skills acquired during your driving lessons will have equipped you for the Test itself, and your instructor make sure that you fully understand what is expected of you on the day.

For most learners, the first time they see the Test Centre is when they arrive for their Test (keep in mind that the Theory Test is taken in a different part of town). At drivewell  we aim reduce “Test day nerves" by visiting the test centre during the weeks leading to your test.

The DSA website contains information on the waiting time for Test appointments, and also details of the various routes in Milton Keynes used for the Practical Test.

On the day of your Test

The Driving Test Centre for Milton Keynes is situated at Block 4 Government Buildings, Wilton Hostel, Wilton Avenue, Bletchley,

Milton Keynes MK3 6DH.

You are expected to enter the Driving Test Centre no more than 5 minutes before your appointment time. There are toilets at the centre.

  On arrival you should:

  • Reverse park into a parking bay and secure the vehicle

  • Take your driving licence – both parts – to the waiting room

  • At the appropriate time your name will be called by the examiner

  • Whilst your licence is verified, you will be asked to sign the insurance declaration*

  • You and the examiner will leave the office, and your eyes will be tested in the car park

  • On completion, lead the way to your car and wait in front of it

  • You will be asked pre Test “Tell & Show” questions

  • The examiner will tell you to enter your vehicle and prepare yourself

  • The examiner will enter the car and complete more details on the Test sheet

  • The examiner will then tell you the requirements of the Driving Test e.g.”Follow the road ahead, unless I instruct otherwise”

  • At this point you may be asked to perform the first of your manoeuvres – the reverse park into a parking bay – before leaving the Test Centre

  • The next instruction will be to leave the Test Centre when you are ready

  • When returning to the Test Centre you will be instructed to drive into a parking bay.  On the other hand, if you have completed only one manoeuvre, you may be expected to reverse park

  • The examiner will complete the Test form and give you the result and a de-brief. On occasions, your driving instructor will be invited to join you for the de-brief

  * It is important that you are sure about the insurance, because it is your declaration on a legal document.  If in doubt, ask your driving instructor for proof.
